A coupled thermo-mechanical and neutron diffusion numerical model for irradiated concrete

چکیده

Abstract: Neutron irradiation plays an important role in nuclear-induced degradation for concrete shielding materials, specifically determining the radiation induced volume expansion (RIVE) phenomenon driving its failure. When analyzing at structural level effects of nuclear on concrete, a non-uniformed distribution neutron must be considered. This can done via particle transport calculations preventive to thermo-mechanic study, or by solving numerically coupled set governing equations problem. In this work second approach is pursued theoretical framework Finite Element Method (FEM). The proposed formulation not only considers accurate model based two-group theory, but also it includes thermal neutrons temperature field. lends itself include RIVE and other relevant mechanical are presented discussed, some results obtained using general 3D numerical herein compared from literature analytical methods addressing simplified 1D problems.

Fully coupled, hygro-thermo-mechanical sensitivity analysis of a pre-stressed concrete pressure vessel

Following a recent world wide resurgence in the desire to build and operate nuclear power stations as a response to rising energy demands and global plans to reduce carbon emissions, and in the light of recent events such as those at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant in Japan, which have raised questions of safety, this work has investigated the long term behaviour of concrete nuclear ...

A geometrical multi-scale numerical method for coupled hygro-thermo-mechanical problems in photovoltaic laminates

A comprehensive computational framework based on the finite element method for the simulation of coupled hygro-thermo-mechanical problems in photovoltaic laminates is herein proposed. While the thermo-mechanical problem takes place in the three-dimensional space of the laminate, moisture diffusion occurs in a two-dimensional domain represented by the polymeric layers and by the vertical channel...

Multiscale hydro-thermo-mechanical model for early-age and mature concrete structures

Temperature and early-age mechanical properties in hydrating concrete structures present a significant risk for cracking, having a major impact on concrete durability. In order to tackle these phenomena, a multiscale analysis is formulated. It accounts for a high variety of cement properties, concrete composition, structure geometry and boundary conditions. The analysis consists of two steps. T...

Efficient thermo-mechanical model for solidification processes

A new, computationally efficient algorithm has been implemented to solve for thermal stresses, strains, and displacements in realistic solidification processes which involve highly nonlinear constitutive relations. A general form of the transient heat equation including latent-heat from phase transformations such as solidification and other temperature-dependent properties is solved numerically...
